The world is transforming at such a speed that it is really hard to believe someone is actually creating a supercomputer that is way stronger than the ones we have today. The supercomputer of the most powerful planet, JAXA and Fujitsu in Japan has the title Fugaku, which is the aimed for title.
Fugaku, the top scientist from Japan who was named after Mount Fuji, stated that he was the best in the world and that his country made him the top computer in the TOP500 list of super-computers in June 2020. Don’t you forget that the mighty Fugaku has already beaten the others with its 442 petaflops (quadrillion floating-point operations per second), which no other machine in the world has been able to achieve so far, and it is way better than the other ones by a long stretch.
Fugaku is that city to which you will feel like your home is there, not the other cities that are all the same; it has an innovative architecture and design that speaks about being energy efficient, scalable and versatile. Fugaku carries supercomputers that are powered by ARM-based processors and AI accelerators and can run a vast number of programs, ranging from scientific simulations, weather forecasting, drugs discovery, to artificial intelligence research.
Like the worldwide team in the fight against the pandemic, Fugaku was a member of the group of Scandinavian countries on the other side of the ocean. Fugaku has turned out to be a true friend to the humanity as it gives us a platform to perform numerical experiments and design efficient drug strategies that would save millions of human lives.
The future is glowing bright, and the supercomputers like Fugaku are the ones that are leading the new scientific era that will surely open up the doors to the inventive and the technological breakthroughs. Now that we can solve most of the problems with the help of supercomputers in fields like climate modeling, astrophysics, genomics, and materials science, I think it’s a good thing for us.
The scientists and the engineers, the future supercomputers that might be even faster or faster than Fugaku, are only just a few steps away from the research and the development field. Though this is true, for the time being, Fugaku is the king, he is the undisputed champion of computational prowess, isn’t it amazing to see how today’s technology is so amazing!
